Better Together

I’m reading a great and encouraging book by Austin Kleon called “Show Your Work” and I this week I came across this passage:

The forward-thinking artists of today aren't just looking for fans or passive consumers of their work, they're looking for potential collaborators, or co-conspirators. These artists acknowledge that good work isn't created in a vacuum, and that the experience of art is always a two-way street, incomplete without feedback.

It was perfect timing as I’ve been working with fellow artist Brandon Nelson on a really fun collaboration that has possibly been the highlight of an already stellar year.

Brandon is a talented woodcarver and approached me with the idea of creating some block prints based on three of his carvings. He’s known for his carvings of salmon and whales which speaks to my Pacific Northwest heart, so of course I said “Let’s Go!” (Sorry! I have two teenage boys 😂).

Here is Brandon’s carving and the first result of what will be a series of three designs plus an in process photo of the block print. Stay tuned for the next two in the series coming soon!
