January Recharge

View of the San Juan Islands from Galbraith Mountain - just a hop, skip, and a jump out our backdoor

Wow! What a year 2025 turned out to be! Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined how much my life would expand when I started down this path of sharing and selling my artwork. I’ve met so many interesting people and can feel the growth in my creativity. Amazing!

All of the artists in the Morgan Block building said that the holidays are the busiest time and that was definitely true. I loved every minute of it AND I was quite tired by the end of the holiday market season. I also found I needed to be a little more in the production zone vs. the creation zone.

So in January I gave myself permission to take the production pressure off a little and just play. I returned to my sketchbook that had been sitting idly by as I printed cards and prints for markets and commissions, and allowed myself to spend time making art with no final product in mind. This is sometimes when the best stuff happens! Really awful stuff can happen too but you know what…it doesn’t matter! You just keep going and eventually something you love is going to surface.

I’m excited for what 2026 might have in store. The beginning of the year is definitely whispering Pacific Northwest ocean vibes so I might come down from the mountain tops to dabble my toes in the saltwater for awhile. This place has so much inspiration to offer from alpine high country vistas, to tiny tidepool mysteries. It can help to have a focus so as not be awestruck into freeze-mode by all the possibilities.

Opening my online store is also still a 2026 priority (I’ll admit to being a little intimidated by the process). Along with some associated mundane tasks like packaging and mailing (surely these things can be figured out?!).

Thanks for sticking with me on this journey. I hope our paths cross in 2026!

A day trip to Seattle’s famous Pikes Place Market and the Seattle Aquarium with the kids served as good sketchbook inspiration.
