Paper Cut Play time

Some art ends up framed and on the studio walls for sale and some art you just make for the joy of making it. This week in class we studied Matisse and his later years of paper cut art. Of course I loved that! We explored how he used color and organic and geometric shapes to convey emotions. And then we just had a lot of fun cutting and gluing paper. This little bird was what ended up on the table in front of me at the end of class. It might not be my typical paper cut but I loved playing around with color and shapes in a different way than I usually would. And because there was no end goal of it becoming a studio piece I think that allowed a playfulness to come through that I really love. Enjoy!
